I Thought My Dog Was Just Getting Old. I Was Wrong.

She wasn't acting sick. She was just different.

Less excited. Quieter. Not as interested in the things she used to love.

I told myself it was age. My vet told me the same.

Then someone mentioned two words I had never heard before.

Taurine deficiency.

What I found out next made me angry. And then it gave me my dog back.

1. The Food I Trusted Was The Problem

Premium grain-free kibble. I felt good about it.

What I didn't know: extreme processing heat destroys taurine before your dog takes a bite.

Taurine is what keeps the heart working properly.

Without it, the heart slowly enlarges.

The bag never mentioned that.
Neither did my vet.

2. It Happens To Every Breed. Every Size.

I thought this was a large dog problem.

My dog is a Beagle. I almost stopped reading.

But taurine deficiency follows the food. Not the dog.

Any breed. Any size.

If the kibble is heavily processed, the taurine is gone.

3. The Decline I Blamed On Age Had A Name

Slower on walks. Skipping meals. Less energy.

I told myself: she's just getting older.

But a heart starved of taurine works harder to do the same job.

That exhaustion shows up everywhere.

It wasn't age. It was fixable.

4. One Scoop Did What Three Years Of Premium Food Couldn't

I ordered DoggySupps expecting nothing.

One scoop mixed into her regular food.

She didn't even notice it.

Week two she finished her bowl.

Week three she was at the door waiting for her walk.

I hadn't seen that in over a year.

5. Her Energy Came Back Before I Realized It Had Left

My neighbor noticed before I did.

"She seems like herself again. What changed?"

I hadn't seen how gradual the decline was until I saw the difference.

Alert. Excited. Present.

My dog was back.

6. She Started Eating Again

A struggling heart redirects energy away from hunger.

She'd been leaving food in her bowl for months.

I kept switching flavors thinking she was bored.

She wasn't bored. Her body was under strain.

Three weeks in she was finishing every meal and looking for more.

7. I Was Not The Only One Who Almost Missed This

After Rosie improved I posted in my dog group.

53 comments by morning.
All grain-free kibble.

All the same quiet decline their owners had written off as age.

One woman's vet had never mentioned taurine once in four years.

We weren't bad owners.

We were all missing the same information.

Your dog can't tell you something is wrong.

They just slow down and hope you notice.

One scoop a day. Results in 2 to 3 weeks.

No results?
You pay nothing.
